Personal Legend

Often times, we ask ourselves, “Why do we exist?” or “What is our purpose?” People have always been skeptic about so many things, yet finding answers seemed to be as difficult as forming your own hypothetical theory of a proven fact. Life, as it is, is a journey in search for something. A line from the novel, The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho says, “Every existing person has his own personal legend.” A personal legend refers to a person’s goal or dream in life. People are born with a purpose. They may not know it the moment they existed on earth, but each person’s life is already written. Usually, we tend to think that our lives are being controlled by fate and every little thing that happens to us has a reason. Somehow, these are true. However, we’re still the writers of our stories and the directors of our movies. Life is not just about knowing our fate or destiny. It’s also about making our own decisions and choosing the right options.

As we go through every living moment in our lives, we are obliged to make something out of it in order to achieve the things that we want. We become optimistic, persevering, risk takers and hard workers. We’re not just after making the most money in the world, not have the largest contribution in history. We want to have a place in this world, a place where everyone accepts us for who or what we are. People should not judge us based on our physical appearances and social statuses. Rather, we should be judged based on our abilities and capabilities. Furthermore, we should be those kinds of people who greatly influence and completely inspire others who are still in search of their personal legend.

Knowing your personal legend can be quite confusing, but achieving it is satisfying. Problem solving and decision making has always been part of our lives. We are always faced with problems, minor or difficult, to be able to understand things and create the best solutions out of them. They’re not just obstacles in our game of life. They are learnings that we should take with us in this journey we’re on. But of course, in solving problems, we make decisions. These decisions should be accountable to the consequences they hold. There can be times when we don’t know which path we should take. But it’s the risk of taking a path, even if we don’t know what’s in there, makes us strong enough to face upcoming challenges.

To realize one’s destiny, is a person’s only real obligation. People learn early in their lives what is their reason for being. There’s only one great truth in the world: “Whoever we are, or whatever it is that we do, when we really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s our mission on earth.” And when we want something, all the universe conspires in helping us achieve it. It is the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.

The Big Impact

When I was 16, my life changed forever. Almost 2 years have passed, but even now, I remember everything from that year down to the smallest details. I relive that year often in my mind, bringing it back to life, and I realize that when I do, I always feel a strange combination of sadness and joy. It can’t be summed up in two or three sentences. It can’t be packaged into something neat and simple. There are moments when I wish I could roll back the clock and take all the sadness away, but I have a feeling that if I did, the joy would be gone as well.
